Lower Franconia Shock Calls: One Arrested, Accomplice Flees After Seizing Cash and Jewelry

Police are searching for a 20-year-old accomplice after a series of 'shock calls' in Lower Franconia led to the seizure of valuables. One suspect (25) was arrested.

A major police investigation is currently ongoing in Lower Franconia, Germany, following a series of so-called "shock calls" where perpetrators successfully defrauded victims out of cash and jewelry, resulting in one arrest but leaving a suspected accomplice at large. The criminal police in Würzburg have issued an urgent public appeal, warning residents in the region against picking up hitchhikers, as the fleeing suspect may attempt to solicit rides to evade capture. The fraudulent calls took place on Tuesday in the area surrounding Bad Neustadt an der Saale. During these calls, the perpetrators impersonated police officers, falsely informing the unsuspecting victims that burglaries had occurred in their immediate vicinity. Exploiting this fabricated premise and claiming a need to protect the victims' valuables, the suspects manipulated the residents into handing over significant amounts of cash and precious items, as reported by NT24.

Following the immediate report of these fraudulent incidents, law enforcement initiated a large-scale manhunt. A police patrol subsequently managed to identify a vehicle matching the description of the suspects' car on the A71 motorway near Maßbach. Upon attempting to stop and inspect the vehicle, the driver refused to comply with the officers' instructions and accelerated, initiating a high-speed pursuit. The chase concluded when the getaway vehicle was involved in an accident on a nearby parking lot. During the incident, a 25-year-old man sustained minor injuries and was successfully apprehended by the police at the scene. However, based on the current investigative findings, his 20-year-old passenger managed to flee the crash site on foot and remains at large. Authorities are now urgently searching for this second suspect involved in the organized crime scheme. James Whitmore is covering the story.
