November 8, 2025 | Erik Seidel | | | |
Russia launches massive overnight attacks on Ukraine. NewsToday24 reports energy facilities hit in Dnipro, Kyiv, and other cities — casualties confirmed.

Russian forces carried out a massive overnight assault on Ukraine, targeting energy infrastructure and critical facilities across multiple regions. According to Ukraine’s Ministry of Energy, more than 450 drones and 45 missiles were launched during the night of November 8, 2025 As reported by NewsToday24 citing the Ministry of Energy in Kyiv.

Energy Minister Svitlana Hrynchuk confirmed that Russia “once again massively attacked Ukraine’s energy infrastructure,” causing extensive damage and temporary power outages in several regions.

The strikes hit Kyiv, Kyiv region, Dnipropetrovsk, Kharkiv, Chernihiv, Mykolaiv, Sumy, Odesa, Poltava, and Kirovohrad oblasts.

Due to technical failures in customs databases during the attack, several border checkpoints temporarily suspended operations, authorities reported.

In a separate incident, Ukrainian investigators announced that a battalion commander, who had gathered soldiers for an award ceremony that was subsequently struck by Russian fire, has been formally notified of suspicion of negligence.

The latest wave of attacks highlights Moscow’s continued campaign to cripple Ukraine’s energy network ahead of winter, while Ukrainian emergency services and energy workers are working around the clock to restore electricity and stabilize the grid.

Dnipro: Residential building hit

In Dnipro, a Russian attack drone struck a nine-story residential building. Apartments between the 4th and 6th floors were destroyed, and a fire broke out, which has since been extinguished.
According to the State Emergency Service (SES), 28 people, including five children, were rescued.
At least three people were killed, and twelve others were injured — seven of them, including a 13-year-old girl, remain hospitalized in moderate condition.

Infrastructure and vehicles were also damaged in other parts of the city. In Pavlohrad, rockets hit an industrial enterprise, while Synelnykove and Nikopol came under additional attacks by FPV drones and artillery fire.

Kyiv: Fires after drone attacks

In the Pechersk district of Kyiv, four small trucks were destroyed by falling drone debris, and two buildings and several vehicles were damaged. Another fire was extinguished before firefighters arrived.
No casualties have been reported in the capital so far.

Kyiv region: Residential areas damaged

According to Mykola Kalashnyk, head of the regional military administration, several private houses and vehicles were damaged in the Boryspil and Vyshhorod districts. One woman suffered shrapnel wounds to the thigh and was hospitalized.

Odesa, Kharkiv, and Poltava: nationwide consequences

The Odesa region was also targeted by drones, sparking a fire at an energy facility that was extinguished amid repeated air raid alerts. In Kharkiv, missile strikes caused multiple explosions; the city’s metro system halted operations and is currently functioning as a shelter. A guided aerial bomb destroyed a gas station and several cars in the Pisochyn community, injuring eight people.

In Poltava, rockets hit energy infrastructure. In Kremenchuk, there were outages of electricity, water, and heating, and Horishni Plavni reported severe damage to its power grid.

Chernihiv and Kirovohrad: infrastructure under fire

In the Chernihiv region, Russian missiles struck a critical infrastructure facility in the Pryluky district, causing a fire that was later extinguished. In the Kirovohrad region, infrastructure in the Oleksandriia district was damaged, though no fatalities were reported. Emergency and rescue teams responded quickly.

Constant shelling as part of Russia’s strategy

The attacks once again highlight Russia’s winter campaign strategy — deliberately destroying civilian and energy infrastructure to pressure the population. Rescue and energy workers across Ukraine are working continuously to maintain electricity, heating, and water supplies, as new drone alerts continue to sound nightly in many regions.
